Old Man Sitting Alone In Whitfield

By Michael Cunliffe

Sitting – pensive – alone –
pondering decades wasted
living a life never loved,
monotonously retelling stories
to himself
and anyone who’ll listen
the way he wants them
remembered.
But they don’t hear
and he doesn’t listen.
So he retells himself
and resells himself,
weighing indignant days
thinning as a scalp,
sitting – pensive – alone –
still.
